Congress Raises Concern on Possible Constitutional Amendment by BJP

Imphal, Jan 29 : Former Chief Minister and CLP Leader Okram Ibobi on Wednesday expressed concerns about the possibility of the current BJP-led double-engine government amending the Indian Constitution.

His remarks came during the launch of the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ campaign at Congress Bhawan, BT Road, Imphal, as part of a nationwide initiative to safeguard the sanctity of the Constitution of India.

Ibobi alleged that since the inception of the current BJP government, there has been a growing tendency to suppress provisions enshrined in the Indian Constitution, with actions that resemble a shift towards dictatorship.

He further stated that such actions were an affront to the Constitution and were tarnishing the fabric of democracy in the country.

Highlighting the deteriorating state of society under the BJP’s rule, Ibobi urged the public to awaken to the current situation and take action.

Echoing similar sentiments, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President K. Meghachandra commented on the drastic changes witnessed during the BJP’s tenure, noting the increasing hardships faced by the public and the rising poverty rate.

He also emphasized the purpose behind launching the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ campaign, which aims to protect the ideals of justice, equality, and fraternity embedded in the Indian Constitution.
