The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has voiced strong opposition to the Union Government’s decision to extend President’s Rule in Manipur for another six months, describing it as a setback to the aspirations of the state’s people.
MPCC President K. Meghachandra, in his reaction to the development, said the extension reflects what he termed a complete breakdown of governance under the BJP-led administration prior to the imposition of central rule earlier this year. He alleged that the continuing unrest in the state was being neglected by the central leadership.
According to Meghachandra, the Centre has failed to prioritize Manipur’s crisis, even as the Prime Minister remains engaged in international engagements. He warned that extending President’s Rule would not bring back normalcy and instead prolong the political and humanitarian challenges facing the state.
The Congress leader urged immediate efforts to restore democratic governance and hold the BJP accountable for what he described as “persistent failures” in handling the situation since February.
