Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham has been conferred posthumously the Vir Chakra medal, honouring his unmatched bravery and supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham sacrificed his life in the line of duty. He was injured in cross-border firing by Pakistan on 10th May 2025, along the International Boundary in RS Pura area, Jammu. He succumbed to his injuries on 11th May 2025.
Both Deepak and Rizwan Malik are two recipients of the Vir Chakra from Manipur, following Sepoy K. Ashuli Mao, who was the first from the state to receive this honour during the Kargil War of 1999.
