The Committee of Tribal Unity (COTU), Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District, has imposed a total shutdown tomorrow (3rd October) on National Highway-2 from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, declaring the day as “Separation Day” by closing all business establishments and academic institutions in the area.
According to a statement issued by the group based in Kangpokpi, Separation Day will be observed with full fervor to remind the Government of India that the Kuki-Zo community has been physically and demographically separated from the Meitei community.
It stated that COTU has been spearheading the political aspirations for emancipation from a tyrannical and nepotistic majoritarian-led state administration since the beginning of the conflict on 3rd May 2023, to pay homage to the fallen heroes who fought valiantly to defend and protect their land from encroachment by the non-tribal community.
