JAN 24, 2026 (Kakching): The MLA of the Kakching Assembly Constituency, M. Rameshwar, expressed his view that any person involved in criminal activities should not be protected, irrespective of caste, community, group, or religion, while responding to media queries on Saturday regarding the M. Rishikanta incident in Churachandpur district of Manipur.
While the MLA was on a spot-inspection visit for road construction in his home turf, he also said that identifying offenders in a timely manner and ensuring appropriate punishment is the responsibility of the government, and this must be carried out strictly.
He added that the present PR government has shown its commitment to ensuring justice in the Rishikanta murder case, and all concerned authorities are working to uncover the truth. He mentioned that the case has now been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) following persistent demands by the Joint Action Committee (JAC).
MLA Rameshwar also emphasised that peace and normalcy are essential for development and progress. He stated that acts of violence aimed at disrupting peace and hindering developmental works are anti-social in nature. He appealed to all, including Kuki MLAs, to cooperate in identifying such anti-social elements and ensuring that they are brought to justice so that peace and development can prevail in the state.
