April 10, 2016 (UKHRUL): In a cross-fire between two groups, Naga and Kuki, near the Litan Sariekhong area of Ukhrul district, one BSF constable posted at the 170/A Battalion, deployed in Mongkot Chepu, was hit by a bullet at around 4:50 this late afternoon.
Constable Mithun Mandal was rushed to RIMS Hospital; however, he succumbed to his injuries, and the body has been deposited at the RIMS morgue for autopsy.
According to reports, the shots were fired from Litan Sareikhong Cemetery, Kholkai hilltop, Kholkai Waterfall, Sharkaphung, etc.
It may be mentioned here that the area has been volatile due to communal rifts between Naga Tangkhul and Kuki, and there have been instances of firing reported in the past two days.
