The Khongjom War Memorial, located in Khongjom on Kheba Hill in Thoubal district—around 32 km from Imphal—came alive with music, dance, and patriotic fervour as Headquarters, 28 Sector Assam Rifles, organised a grand band display and cultural event to mark India’s 79th Independence Day. The celebration honoured the valour of Operation Sindoor while bringing together Assam Rifles personnel, civil administration, and the public.
Distinguished guests included Col Imon Mukherjee, Addl DIG HQ 28 Sector Assam Rifles; Priyadarshini Laishram, SP Kakching; Ksh. Kennedy, social worker; Col Shivendra, CO 46 Assam Rifles; along with officials, families, and senior civil society members from Kakching and Thoubal districts.
Highlights of the evening included the traditional Khukri Dance, a vibrant cultural presentation by students of Assam Rifles Public School, and stirring performances by the Pipe and Jazz Bands of 46 Assam Rifles. The seamless blend of martial music and cultural expression drew large crowds of local residents, turning the memorial into a sea of tricolours and celebration.
The event served as both a tribute to those who fought for India’s freedom and a reaffirmation of the shared values of unity, respect, and cultural pride that define the region.
