In a demand for justice, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and local Meira Paibis organised a demonstration with torches at Lamlong Keithel in Imphal last night, following the tragic death of Khoisnam Sanajaoba. Sanajaoba, who was allegedly taken into police custody on December 31, 2024, was later found deceased at JNIMS Hospital, leaving behind his wife and three-year-old child.
The protestors, chanting slogans denouncing custodial killings and demanding accountability, voiced the community’s outrage over the incident. Calls for transparency resounded as the JAC urged authorities to release the post-mortem report conducted on April 15.
“The killing of village volunteers after arrest is condemnable,” echoed through the crowd, highlighting widespread sentiments of anguish and indignation.
Emphasising the urgent need for justice, the JAC pressed for swift action against those responsible, stressing the plight of Sanajaoba’s family, now bereft of their primary provider.
Demanding adequate compensation for the bereaved family, the JAC warned of escalated agitation if their demands were not promptly met.
