“Look, Yummicious, Sir,” a social media user praised after an MLA of Manipur won the hearts of netizens in a video that appeared on social media, showing him having a midday meal together with students sitting closely and neatly on a bench inside a school campus on the outskirts of Imphal West district.
What sent the sweetest message was the conversation with the kids while having the meal together. When the MLA asked, “Do you always read your books properly?” one from the group of students gave a blunt reply that sounded like “no.”
The video was taken while the MLA of Konthoujam AC, Dr. Sapam Ranjan, was attending the annual prize distribution and felicitation ceremony of successful HSLC candidates of SK Ideal High School, Ngairangbam, in Imphal West district. The MLA was also seen interacting with the teachers of the school during the visit and also felicitated bright students from the school.
The Midday Meal Scheme, now part of the PM POSHAN (Poshan Shakti Nirman) initiative, is a government program in India that encourages children to stay in school by removing the barrier of hunger, thereby boosting attendance and concentration in class.
This government program provides free, hot, and nutritious cooked meals to students in government and government-aided schools to combat hunger, improve nutrition, and increase school attendance.
