Day Care Chemotherapy Centre available at District Hospital Thoubal

As a significant healthcare initiative for the people of Thoubal district, initiated by the District Health Society Thoubal and District Hospital Thoubal, a Day Care Chemotherapy Centre has already been inaugurated at District Hospital, Thoubal, Khangabok, under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD). This was announced by Dr. W. Ruhinikumar Singh, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Thoubal, during a meet held at his office on Thursday.

Dr. Ruhinikumar stated that the hospital has begun providing facilities such as cancer care services to patients from Thoubal district and surrounding areas. The District Health Society Thoubal appealed to the public to avail this facility free of cost, he added.

He further mentioned that the centre will offer chemotherapy services, and patients who have been prescribed chemotherapy by an oncologist can avail the services at District Hospital, Thoubal. The chemotherapy drugs will be provided free of cost if available in the hospital store. If not, efforts will be made to procure them from the State Health Society, Manipur.

Dr. W. Ruhinikumar thanked Dr. Y. Premchandra Singh, State Nodal Officer, National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD), for supporting the establishment of the centre. He assured that the hospital will provide quality care to cancer patients and urged people to take advantage of the services offered.

Further, he stated that the hospital is also offering TELE ONCO consultation services with TATA Hospital Mumbai for haematology and breast cancer cases. Patients can avail of health check-ups and teleconsultation services on Wednesday and Friday of every week.

Informing about the OPD timings, the MS announced that for cancer patients the OPD will be held on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday; for breast cancer screening on Thursday and Friday; for VIA and colposcopy on Monday and Friday; and for ENT-related cancer on Tuesday and Friday.

Dr. Y. Nokul Singh, Chief Medical Officer/District Mission Director, District Health Society Thoubal, emphasized the need for early detection and treatment of cancer. He urged ASHA, ANM, and CHO workers to continue population-based screening (PBS) and opportunistic screening at the sub-centre, PHC, and CHC levels. He assured that confirmed cases will be referred to District Hospital Thoubal or other specialized hospitals for further treatment.

Dr. Th. Sareo, Nodal Officer, DCCC, and officials from the NCD Cell Thoubal also took part in the meet.
