March 15, 2025: On the second day of ‘Yaoshang,’ many devotees thronged to Shri Shri Govindaji Temple in Imphal on Saturday and soaked themselves in devotion and a splash of color during the ‘Pichkari-Numit’ (the Pichkari Day) at the temple located in Imphal.
Many devotees and revelers from across Manipur and beyond gathered at the temple to offer prayers and devotion. Key highlights include ‘Sankirtan’—the singing of devotional hymns accompanied by traditional musical instruments—by various local groups. The temple premises echoed with spiritual chants as devotees gathered to offer prayers and seek blessings.
As part of the Yaoshang celebrations, the sports festival was also organized in various local clubs to ignite the sporting spirit of Manipur and promote physical activity and community bonding. However, Thabal Chongba, the traditional moonlight dance where young men and women dance in a circle holding hands, has been excluded from this year’s festivities. Despite this, the spirit of Yaoshang remains strong, with devotees participating in customary processions, prayers, and vibrant celebrations, symbolizing the return of joy and unity after two years of disruption.
