Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur, Dharun Kumar S., visited 20 relief camps across Tuibong Sub-Division today, continuing the district’s inspection of operations for internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the ethnic violence in Manipur.
The camps, managed by Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), provide essential amenities such as shelter, food, water, medical assistance, and health cards to the displaced families. During the visit, the DC interacted directly with the IDPs, many of whom have been living in the camps since May 3, 2023.
The IDPs expressed grievances related to water supply, lack of storage, health services, financial support for education, and requests for assistance to set up a library at Sadhbavana Relief Camp. The DC assured them that the issues would be taken up promptly with the concerned departments.
As a goodwill gesture, T-shirts and sweets were distributed to children, and the DC also inspected handloom and handicraft items made by displaced persons.
On his return, the DC and his team also inspected the ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra–Farm Science Centre at Pearsonmun Village under Songpi Block.
The visit underscored the ongoing need for coordinated humanitarian support to help rebuild the lives of those impacted by the violence.
The DC was accompanied by ADC/SDO Tuibong, Seiminthang Lenthang; SDC Kimkhanching; CMO Dr. Vanlalkungi; DFWO Dr. Sania Monica; CEO Lalthazam MCS; AC-III to DC Mangminthang Gangte; ZEO Esther Chingneikim, and other district officials.
