Delay in Road Repair May Lead to Unrest: KBBWA and Nupi Lup

Kakching, November 8: Residents of Kakching and nearby villages have expressed concern over the poor condition of the road stretch from Kakching to Waheng Leikai along the Kakching Lamkhai section of National Highway 137(A). The surface of the road from Kakching Lamkhai to Kakching Bazar has become badly damaged. People said that due to the worsening condition, it has become extremely difficult to move around, and the dust pollution caused by the dilapidated road is severely affecting public health and the environment.

It is reported that if the repair work of the said road, which was supposed to start within the 10th of November, is not taken up promptly, the public of the area will be compelled to take up various forms of agitation. This warning was jointly issued by the Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association (KBBWA) and the Kakching Keithel Apunba Ema Lup after holding a joint meeting today.

During the meeting, Yengkhom Rajendro, President of the Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association, stated that the stretch of road between Kakching Lamkhai and Waheng Leikai on National Highway 137(A) — which is also a key route for the people of many villages — was assured to undergo special repairing within November 7, 2025, as per the commitment made during the meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner of Kakching District on November 4, 2025. However, as of November 8, 2025, no visible repair work has been initiated, and the authorities have remained silent, showing no sign of taking responsibility towards the grievances of the public.

Due to the deteriorated condition of the road, the residents of Kakching, the Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association, and the Kakching Keithel Apunba Ema Lup have decided that if the repair work is not started by November 10, they will launch a democratic form of agitation in protest.

Nongmaithem Bheigyapati, President of the Kakching Keithel Apunba Ema Lup, also stated that this road is the lifeline of the region. It serves as the main route for the movement of farmers, workers, and business people of all kinds. However, its condition has now worsened to a very dangerous state, full of potholes and dust. It is no longer worthy of being called a road. The delay in starting the repair work, despite prior commitments, has deeply frustrated the public. The organizations further warned that if the authorities fail to act immediately, a large-scale democratic agitation will inevitably break out.
