Six representatives from the Valley who recently participated in the peace dialogue initiated by the Union Home Minister in New Delhi have stated that the failure of the talks lies with the Kuki groups. Speaking at a press conference held at the Manipur Press Club on Monday, the delegates emphasized that they attended the meeting with a positive approach and without any preconditions.
Nando Luwang, President of the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) and one of the participants, said the dialogue was a positive step forward. “We joined the meeting without any precondition. However, the Kuki groups made the talks difficult by placing rigid conditions that hindered meaningful engagement,” he said.
He further added that officials from the Home Ministry hinted at the possibility of future rounds of dialogue to find a peaceful and lasting resolution.
Criticising the stance of the Kuki groups, Luwang remarked that their opposition to the idea of free movement and interaction between Meitei and Kuki communities was a clear indication of “ill intent.” He asserted that such resistance undermines the possibility of peaceful coexistence and mutual trust.
The remarks come amid continuing efforts to restore normalcy and foster dialogue between communities in conflict-torn Manipur.
