Demand Side Management Measures Implementation Under “Capacity Building of DISCOMs” Launched

Jan. 28, 2025: The Demand Side Management (DSM) Measures Implementation under the “Capacity Building of DISCOMs (Distribution Companies)” initiative, supported by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India, was launched today. The event was organized by Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) in collaboration with GreenTree Global Firm at Hotel Imphal, North AOC.

Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, Power Minister Th. Biswajit Singh stated that with the increase in population, the demand for power also rises. Despite various restrictions, the requirement for power supply will remain sustained. To meet this demand, it is crucial to adapt to new and sustainable technologies and equipment that can serve our needs without harming the ecosystem, he added. The Minister encouraged the public to transition to using low power-consuming electrical appliances and equipment. He emphasized the importance of mass awareness campaigns, particularly in far-flung areas, for the effective implementation of this policy.

Biswajit Singh also mentioned that in collaboration with technical support from GreenTree Global Firm, various policies, projects, and plans are in progress, aimed at benefiting a large population with a positive impact.

Speaking at the event, the President of the function, Dr. Shailesh Kumar Chourasia, IAS, Commissioner (Power), Government of Manipur, expressed that the use of efficient equipment will significantly help reduce demand. He suggested that commercially viable distribution companies should begin implementing the policy. He also called for action plans and awareness programs to be conducted in government buildings as pilot projects and highlighted the need for power conservation by promoting low power consumption appliances.

N. Praveen Singh, IAS, Director, MANIREDA, and H. Shantikumar Singh, Managing Director, MSPDCL, attended the function as guests of honour.

As part of the launch, Dr. C.S. Azad, a representative from GreenTree Firm, provided technical insights on the implementation of identified DSM measures in Manipur and strategies for their execution.

The event was attended by officials, staff, stakeholders, distributors, and consumers, among others.
