Dengue Cases Rise Sharply in Manipur; Source Reduction Efforts Initiated

Dengue cases, primarily caused by Aedes mosquito bites, have risen sharply across Manipur, with self-preventive care and source reduction remaining the most effective strategies to prevent further transmission.

More than 1,251 cases have been reported in Imphal West this year and 248 cases in Imphal East district, highlighting the higher risk in densely populated urban areas. Considering the gravity of the situation, a public health expert urged people to seek medical help immediately if they experience fever, headache, or body pain. Citizens are also advised to wear full-sleeved clothing and long dresses to cover the body as much as possible, keep their surroundings clean and dry, and remove stagnant water from containers, flower pots, tyres, etc.

Following the sharp rise, local club members, ASHAs, Urban Health Facility staff, and State Urban Teams have initiated joint intensive source reduction drives in their respective localities to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and curb the spread of dengue across the state.
