Kakching, November 4: Kakching Deputy Commissioner Rohit Anand, IAS, kicked off the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0 on Tuesday with a cyclathon rally organised by the National Tobacco Control Programme Cell under the District Health Society.
The rally, flagged off from the DC Office Complex, saw around 30 students cycling to Keirak Dam and concluding at the CMO Office. The district also introduced an action plan to make educational institutions and villages tobacco-free.
Before the rally, the DC chaired a District Level Coordinating Committee meeting, where officials discussed measures including marking yellow zones within 100 yards of schools to prohibit tobacco sales, organising essay and painting competitions, and expanding awareness drives to rural areas.
SP Priyadarshini Laishram highlighted the importance of public participation and assured police assistance. Dr. T. Jullon, District Nodal Officer (NTCP), presented campaign strategies focused on awareness, enforcement of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act and the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, strengthening Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions, and encouraging Tobacco-Free Villages.
Representatives from education, health, police, municipal departments, and local bodies also participated in the discussion.
