DESAM Gives Govt 5-Day Deadline to Institute Inquiry Committee into Sub-Standard Paper Supply Scam

The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has strongly criticised the state government’s silence over the alleged supply of sub-standard paper used in textbooks and Class X answer sheets under the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, terming it a major scam.

The issue reportedly affects materials used from Class I to X, including answer sheets for the ongoing HSLC examinations.

DESAM stated that its proposed agitation has been temporarily halted, considering the ongoing Class X examinations being appeared for by around 37,725 candidates, stressing that student interests remain a priority.

The student body had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur, seeking the formation of an independent inquiry committee. However, it expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of concrete action so far.

While acknowledging that authorities may be exercising restraint during the ongoing examinations, DESAM asserted that delaying action erodes public trust. It demanded that the government institute an inquiry committee at the earliest to investigate the matter and ensure accountability.

DESAM further warned that if no action is taken within five days, it will resume democratic agitations, holding BOSEM officials responsible and urging urgent steps to safeguard students’ interests.
