The DESAM, Thoubal District Council, has urged the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal to install traffic signal lights at key junctions in the district to ensure student and public safety. The student body said Thoubal has witnessed a sharp rise in vehicular movement, leading to congestion and a growing risk of accidents, especially near educational institutions, markets, and health centres.
It highlighted busy locations such as the Waikhom Mani Girls’ College–Thoubal College crossing, Thoubal Melaground, Khangabok District Hospital crossing, Wangjing–Heirok junction, Yairipok Bazar, and Khongjom Bazar–Langathel crossing as urgently requiring traffic signal systems. DESAM further appealed for the temporary deployment of vigilant traffic police personnel during peak hours until the installation is completed.
The council expressed hope that the district administration will prioritise public safety and take swift action to regulate traffic more effectively in the interest of smooth transportation.
