April 5, 2025: With the initiatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the first-ever meeting between Meitei CSOs and Kuki-Zo representatives in New Delhi ended positively today, in which the meeting collectively discussed six major crucial points to pave the way towards a lasting solution.
The meeting decided to welcome any initiative by the government to facilitate the return of IDPs (internally displaced people) to their respective places, subject to logistics and security arrangements made by the government, and also acknowledged the difficulties faced by the public on account of obstruction to free movement of traffic on national and state highways, urging the people to cooperate with the administration to normalize the functioning of highways.
The meeting also agreed that all long-term and contentious issues will be taken up with GoI (MHA) for resolution through dialogue and consultation with the communities, and also appealed to the Governor to prioritize development activities in their areas, which were neglected during the conflict.
The meeting also appreciated steps taken by the Governor to facilitate the deposit of arms and assured to extend all cooperation in this regard in the future in order to instill a sense of security among the people. They also made an appeal to their respective people to refrain from indulging in violence targeting members of the other community and urged the administration to take strong action against perpetrators of violence.
From MHA, three officials headed by A.K. Mishra, including IB Joint Director Rajesh Kamble, took part in the meeting, and the state government was represented by Manipur Chief Secretary P.K. Singh and Additional DGP Asutosh Sinha.
Mention may be made here that altogether six delegates, three each from AMUCO and FOCS, represented the Meitei CSO, while Kuki-Zo representatives took part in the meeting—six from Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) and two from Zomi Council (Z.C.).
