Feb 27, 2025 : In the early hours of today, at approximately 3 AM, several illegal structures at Gamgiphai along National Highway-2 were demolished by Central Security Forces and the Kangpokpi Police.
The Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) strongly condemns the security measures being implemented under President’s Rule, viewing them as an attempt to impose forced normalization that is both unattainable and counterproductive to peace in the region.
For nearly two years, the Kuki-Zo community has adhered to peaceful, democratic methods of protest against perceived biases in the administration, said COTU in a release, stating that it is critical that the authorities refrain from misrepresenting the Kuki-Zo community’s intentions or aspirations.
COTU also expressed concerns over the recent events in Gamgiphai.
The committee urges the Governor to avoid applying an ethno-centric approach to security measures and to ensure the Kuki-Zo community is not unfairly blamed for the blocking of highways, which is not their doing.
