Jiribam, January 19, 2026: With an emphasis on public responsibility and coordinated action, the District Administration Jiribam on Monday observed the 37th National Road Safety Month, 2026, under the theme “Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan – Road Safety, Safety to Life.”
The programme, organised in collaboration with the District Transport Office at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, outlined a series of awareness and enforcement activities aimed at improving road safety across the district. Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar announced plans for distributing helmets to motorcycle riders, along with pamphlets and stickers highlighting traffic rules and road signs. A district-wide bike rally is also scheduled for January 22 to further spread road safety messages.
To strengthen outreach efforts, directions were issued to organise quiz competitions and poster campaigns in coordination with the district police, health department, schools, and colleges. The Public Works Department was instructed to undertake road marking works along the national highway and other important roads in Jiribam.
The Deputy Commissioner also encouraged residents to utilise services offered by the newly operational District Transport Office, including driving licence issuance, vehicle registration, and other transport-related facilities.
As part of the observance, the Road Safety Pledge was administered. The event was attended by Superintendent of Police Prakhar Pandey, ADC Th. Manoranjan Singh, SDO L. Tarajeet Singh, DTO M. Vikash, and officials from the district administration, PWD, and Health Department.
Earlier in the day, a social service camp was organised at Jiribam Higher Secondary Playground, the venue for the 77th Republic Day celebrations in the district. The Deputy Commissioner reviewed preparations at the site and directed line departments to ensure coordinated efforts for the smooth conduct of the national event. Officials from the municipal council and various departments participated in the cleanliness and preparatory drive.
