District Administration Kakching Launches Intensive Checking Drive Following Reports of suspected African Swine Fever

Amid reports of suspected cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in certain areas of Kakching district, the District Administration Kakching has initiated a comprehensive checking and preventive drive to control the possible spread of the disease.

The drive, launched under the directive of Deputy Commissioner Rohit Anand (IAS), aims to curb the spread of the infection across the district. As part of the measures, the district administration has directed all municipal councils to inspect pork-selling outlets within their jurisdictions and to ensure that no infected or uncertified pork is being sold in the markets.

Officials stated that any violation of these orders will result in strict action, and surprise inspections will continue. During the drive, pork sellers are required to strictly follow the veterinary and public health guidelines, including maintaining proper hygiene, sanitation, and waste management practices. Sale or display of uncertified or untested pork in the markets has been strictly prohibited.

The Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department, in coordination with the Public Health authorities, has also been instructed to take up necessary preventive and awareness activities to protect public health and contain the spread of ASF.

As part of the ongoing checking drive, teams comprising officials from the Kakching Municipal Council and the Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department jointly inspected pork stalls and meat shops across Kakching bazar. Awareness programmes were also conducted to educate vendors on hygienic handling and safe disposal of waste.

Similar drives were carried out at Kakching Khunou under the Kakching Khunou Municipal Council, where officials inspected local markets and meat stalls. The Sugnu Municipal Council also convened a joint meeting with local pork vendors and butchers, followed by an awareness programme on disease prevention and safety measures.

The district administration appealed to all pork sellers and the general public to extend full cooperation with the ongoing preventive measures to ensure public safety and prevent the spread of African Swine Fever in the district.
