The Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi, Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, along with the District Programme Officer (DPO) and District Level Officers (DLOs), celebrated the 10th anniversary of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (Save the Girl Child) initiative at the Conference Hall in Kangpokpi District. The celebration, which commenced on 22nd January, will continue until 8th March 2025.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Programme Officer highlighted the numerous activities undertaken under the scheme and their positive impact in overcoming gender biases and empowering girl child education in the district. The DPO further elaborated on various events to be held in collaboration with other concerned departments during the week-long celebration.
These activities include raising awareness on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,” promoting menstrual hygiene, conducting gender sensitization sessions for both boys and girls, and organizing a plantation drive in coordination with forest officials. Additionally, there will be co-curricular activities, skill development workshops, career counseling sessions (to be held in Kangpokpi, Motbung, and Saikul), and awareness programs in collaboration with the departments of skill development and entrepreneurship.
Officials were urged to extend their maximum support and cooperation to ensure the celebration’s success. The program emphasized the importance of collective efforts in achieving gender equality and empowering women in society.
It was also announced that meritorious girls from Class 10 and 12 (who secured ranks from 1st to 10th) would be felicitated during the 76th Republic Day Celebration.
A pledge was administered in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, along with the DLOs.
The celebration was attended by Lamminlal Simte, MCS, SDO Champhai; Shri Len Singsit, MCS, SDO Island; Paotinsei Kipgen, MCS, SDO Saitu-Gamphazol; officials from CRPF; other district administration officers; and District Level Officers (DLOs).
