May 16, 2025 (DIO): A district-level civil defence mock drill titled ‘Operation Abhyaas’ was conducted today at the Jiribam Higher Secondary School Ground, following directives from the Union Home Ministry and the Directorate of Relief and Disaster Management, Government of Manipur.
The drill began at 2:00 PM in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, IAS, Superintendent of Police Shaikh Mohd Zaib Zakir, IPS, SDO Laishram Tarajeet Singh, MCS, and other district-level officers.
The exercise simulated multiple emergency scenarios including air raids with sirens, massive fire outbreaks, search and rescue operations, casualty evacuation, and the establishment of temporary hospitals and safe evacuation of civilians to bunkers or demilitarised zones.
Organised under the supervision of the SP Jiribam in coordination with CRPF, IRB, Fire Services and other concerned departments, the mock drill aimed to enhance preparedness and inter-agency coordination during emergencies.
Around 120 NCC/NSS students and 250 volunteers actively participated in the drill, supported by volunteers from NSS, Aapda Mitras, Red Cross, and local residents.
Addressing the participants, DC Krishna Kumar highlighted the importance of such preparedness exercises and stressed the need for constant vigilance and awareness. He assured that during actual emergencies, citizens’ safety will remain the top priority with protocols in place to respond effectively.
