Kakching, Oct 25: A District-Level Reading Mela 2024–25 was held today at Kakching Higher Secondary School under the supervision of the District Administration. The event, organized by the Zonal Education Office, Kakching under Samagra Shiksha Manipur, aimed to promote foundational literacy and foster a love of reading among students in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
About 60 students from Classes I and II participated in the competition. Zonal Education Officer Mayanglambam Rakhesh Singh, Principal Naorem Nomita Devi, D.I. of Schools Kh. Binodini, and A.I. of Schools Y. Lokendro Singh attended the event.
Mayanglambam Rakhesh Singh highlighted that under NEP 2020, students must develop strong reading, writing, and comprehension skills. He noted that such initiatives are essential to achieve these objectives and announced plans to expand similar activities to higher classes, urging teachers and parents to support the efforts.
In the Class I category, Amom Nongdren of Wangoo Laipham Upper Primary School won first place, followed by Th. Linthoingamba of Elangkhangpokpi Junior High School and Th. Biju of Langmeidong Primary School in second and third positions. In Class II, Reihan of Hangoon Primary Madrasa secured first place, with O. Lanchenbi of Langmeidong Primary School and N. Linthoi of Kakching Makha High School finishing second and third.
The winners received certificates, mementoes, and cash prizes and will represent the district in the State-Level Reading Mela.
