The Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) has lodged a complaint with Delhi Police against a private firm, Project X, for organizing the ‘Thabal Chongba’ event in South Delhi and sought police support to intervene in such a cultural event for commercial exploitation.
According to information, the event is set to be organized on Saturday (April 5, 2025) at Surat Garden, near Kishangarh, Vasant Kunj, South Delhi, by Project X with an entry fee of Rs 200 per person. The DMCC views it as a blatant violation and commercial exploitation of a sacred event and culture.
In the complaint addressed to the Delhi Commissioner of Police, it said ‘Thabal Chongba’ is not a commercial event—it is a sacred cultural tradition observed only during the Yaoshang Festival in March and on Sajibu Cheiraoba (Meetei New Year). Organizing it arbitrarily on April 5, 2025, is a blatant distortion and an unforgivable insult to the Meetei culture. It also said the community has never permitted private or commercial firms to take over this event.
Project X is deliberately misusing and misrepresenting our cultural event for profit, disregarding the sentiments of our people. This act is a serious provocation that has caused deep outrage and condemnation among Meeteis in Delhi and beyond.
