Don Bosco College (Autonomous), Maram, in Senapati district, celebrated Wildlife Week 2025 from October 6 to 8 with a series of educational and environmental activities aimed at fostering awareness on wildlife protection and biodiversity conservation. The programme was organized by the Department of Zoology in collaboration with the Biosphere Club and NSS Unit.
The observance began on October 6 with a wildlife awareness event focusing on reptile species, featuring preserved and live specimens of snakes and lizards, along with collections of butterflies and moths native to the region.
On October 7, the outreach programme extended to Rangtaiba Memorial Institute, Maram Bazar, where 52 students from Classes VIII to X took part in interactive sessions on wildlife conservation and ecological balance.
The concluding day, October 8, featured a tree plantation drive on the college campus, during which 72 student volunteers from the Biosphere Club and NSS Unit planted 60 cherry and chestnut saplings. The initiative was led by B.Sc. Zoology students Rosa Ashuli Pao and Panii Khosiivei, under the supervision of NSS Programme Officer John Britto.
The Department of Zoology and IQAC Cell expressed gratitude to Range Officer K. Chokhoni for providing the saplings and to Principal Dr. Rev. Fr. Sebastian KO for supporting the initiative. The three-day observance, coordinated by Assistant Professors Dr. Ht. Decemson, Dr. Aribam Satishchandra Sharma, Dr. Sougrakpam Neli, and Mr. Jayenta Tongbram, concluded with a renewed call for student and community participation in conserving Manipur’s rich wildlife and environment.
