The Directorate of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur, has urged the public not to panic following confirmation of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreaks in Kakching and Churachandpur districts.
According to the department, the cases were notified by the government on Thursday at three locations: Moirangthem Leikai Khamlangba Pareng and Kakching Turel Wangma (Ward No. 5) in Kakching district, and Kangval village in Churachandpur.
Officials clarified that ASF, despite being a highly contagious viral disease fatal to pigs, does not infect humans and poses no public health risk.
The department informed that ASF is a notifiable disease under the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009, and control measures are being activated as per the National Action Plan for ASF (2020).
Sixty Rapid Response Teams have already been constituted across all districts, supported by district administrations, forest officials, and local authorities.
A dedicated ASF Control Room has been opened at the State Veterinary Hospital, Sanjenthong, where daily updates on containment efforts will be available at 5:30 p.m.
The public may contact the Joint Directors of Kakching & Thoubal (7085545721) and Churachandpur (9436031052) for any assistance.
The authorities have advised that no pigs, pig feed, or related materials be transported from notified infected or surveillance zones.
They further cautioned against disposing of pig carcasses in water bodies or open areas.
The Director appealed for public cooperation in containment measures and reiterated that there is no threat to human health, urging citizens to remain calm and support the ongoing efforts.
