Dr. Kh. Ratankumar Condemns Demolition of Manipur Rajbari in Shillong

Former Minister Dr. Kh. Ratankumar strongly condemned the demolition of the Manipur Rajbari in Shillong, calling it an act carried out with ill intent. Speaking during a public event organized under the “Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod” campaign by the Mayang Imphal Block Congress Committee, Youth Congress Committee, Mahila Congress Committee, and Election Campaign and Development Committee at Konchak Heigum, he expressed deep concern over the incident.

The program was attended by Congress MLA O. Surjakumar, former MLAs Md. Fajiur Rahim and E. Dwijamani, among other Congress leaders.

Dr. Ratankumar emphasized that the Rajbari in Shillong is a historically significant site symbolizing Manipur’s long-standing connection with India. He recalled that during his tenure as PWD Minister in the Congress government, steps had been taken to preserve the site, but legal hurdles at that time prevented progress.

He lamented that despite its historical importance, the place, which has stood for over two centuries, has now been demolished without proper consideration, causing deep hurt to the sentiments of the people of Manipur. He asserted that such an act should not be taken lightly, as it affects not only a structure but also the cultural identity and heritage of the Manipuri people.

Dr. Ratankumar accused the BJP of pursuing policies and actions that undermine the history, culture, and identity of the region. He demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident and urged strict action against those responsible.
