Jan 30, 2025: Police apprehended two individuals who were attempting to extort money from local business establishments under the banner of the ‘Volunteers’ Welfare Fund’ in collusion with former members of a UG group on Thursday.
According to police, the duo was apprehended from the Sagolband Tera area following reports of extortion threats targeting local businesses in Imphal East District. The apprehended persons have been identified as Yumlembam Khelen Singh and Huidrom Langamba, and they have confessed to collaborating with former members of underground groups, coercing businessmen with demands amounting to lakhs of rupees under the threat of arms, according to police.
The operation, which was coordinated by Heingang Police Station, has intensified investigations to uncover further links and ensure the safety of local businesses.
