In a devastating early morning blaze, a saw mill and rice mill near Wabagai Lamkhai Bazar and Mayeng Lamjao areas were engulfed in flames, causing damage estimated at over Rs. 32 lakhs. Preliminary findings point to a short circuit in one of the machines as the likely cause.
The fire, which broke out around 1 AM, prompted responses from Kakching Fire Sub-Station and Mayang Imphal teams. After an eight-hour battle, firefighters managed to contain the inferno by 9 AM, preventing it from spreading to neighboring structures.
Despite their efforts, significant machinery valued at approximately Rs. 32 lakhs was lost.
Authorities have identified the owners, Mayengbam Manikumar (46) and Mayengbam Selung. An investigation into the incident is ongoing to determine the exact cause.
