The Election Commission of India (ECI) has disqualified Moirangthem Totomsana Nongshaba, a contesting candidate from the 33-Heirok Assembly Constituency in the 2022 Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, for failing to submit his election expenditure account as mandated under law.
According to the order issued by the ECI, despite being served a notice, Totomsana Nongshaba neither furnished his account of election expenses nor provided any explanation or justification for the failure to comply with the statutory requirement.
Invoking Section 10A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Commission stated that it was satisfied, on the basis of records, that the candidate failed to lodge his election expenses within the prescribed time and manner, without any valid reason.
Consequently, the Election Commission has declared Moirangthem Totomsana Nongshaba disqualified for a period of three years from the date of the order.
During this period, he will be ineligible to contest for or hold membership in either House of Parliament, any State Legislative Assembly, or Legislative Council.
