Encroached Structures Demolished in Gwarok Reserved Forest

Authorities have stepped up action against encroachment in the Gwarok Reserved Forest, with the Forest Department launching a demolition drive under the Thoubal Forest Division on Monday.

The operation involved personnel from the Nongpok Sekmai Police Station and teams from Thoubal and Kakching ranges, led by Range Officer Dineschandra Salam. Officials said the joint team dismantled seven illegal constructions, including four at Saram, two at Langmeithet, and one at a disputed stretch between the two villages.

Forest officials stated that such encroachments pose a serious threat to the protection of reserved forest land. They added that the department is committed to carrying out similar operations in the coming days to safeguard the area.

The public has been urged not to occupy or build on protected forest land, with authorities warning that violations will invite strict legal measures.
