In a notification issued by the Manipur Pollution Control Board, it has been announced that an enforcement drive to ban single-use plastic items will begin on April 15, 2025.
The initiative will be undertaken by a team comprising members of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Urban Local Bodies, District Panchayats, Gram Panchayats, and the Manipur Pollution Control Board.
According to the notification, strict actions will be taken against producers, stockists, distributors, brand owners, manufacturers, and others found violating the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, as amended.
These actions may include lodging police complaints, seizing banned plastic items, and imposing environmental compensation as per guidelines.
The enforcement drive aims to address the concerns outlined in the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, and the Manipur Plastic Policy, 2022.
