March 4, 2025: Among the 9 weapons surrendered in Churachandpur district of Manipur on Monday, one weapon appeared to be a property of the US government, that is, one 5.56 mm caliber M4A4 carbine with one magazine. Now it only remained an enigma how this lightweight assault rifle landed in someone’s hand in Churachandpur.
The weapons that were surrendered at Churachandpur include 01 (one) M4A4 Carbine (Property of US Govt.) Cal. 5.56 mm with one Magazine, 02 DBBL (Made in India), 01 (one). 303 Rifle with one Magazine, 01 (one) SLR Rifle 7.62 mm 1A1 with one Magazine, 01 (one) .303 Rifle with one Magazine, 01 (one) no. of locally made Stand Gun with one Magazine, 01 (one) .303 Rifle Body No.714K (1949 No.1MK 3) with one Magazine and five live rounds, 03 (three) local made pumpi, and 01 (one). 303 Rifle (Modified short barrel) with one Magazine, 01 (one) small Pumpi local made with six rounds, 03 (three) Walkie Talkie with three chargers, 04 (four) no. of Magazine pouch (vest), 09 (nine) live rounds of .303 live rounds and 02 (two) local hand Grenade.
According to Manipur Police, a total of 33 (thirty-three) different types of weapons, various ammunitions/munitions, and other miscellaneous items were voluntarily surrendered by the public to the police stations located at Churachandpur, Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West, and Bishnupur Districts.
