Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing didn’t hold back during his recent inspection tour of Kamjong district, publicly schooling contractors and agencies for their role in the district’s stalled and substandard development.
With frustration boiling over, he accused them of misusing public funds and warned of serious legal consequences for their negligence.
Standing before incomplete structures like the Sadbhavana Mandap and Ava Market Complex, both pending since 2021 despite heavy financial allocation, Leishiyo lashed out, questioning why “incompetent and careless” contractors were still being rewarded with government tenders.
“This is a betrayal of public trust,” he declared, adding that the people of Kamjong deserve better.
At one stop, inspecting a newly built road, he remarked with biting sarcasm, “It’s barely wide enough to cover a sleeping dog!” The MLA’s anger only deepened at the Kamjong District Hospital, where he found patients struggling with basic amenities. Without hesitation, he personally assisted those in need, highlighting his commitment to public service.
But the most shocking moment came at the under-construction 50-bedded hospital, where Leishiyo demonstrated the shoddy work firsthand—a wall crumbled with a mere kick.
“This is not just poor work; this is criminal negligence,” he said, demanding accountability from both the contractors and the departments that sanctioned such subpar execution.
Kamjong headman Hoping Chitung stood with the MLA, voicing similar concerns and pointing out that no major project in the area has been completed in years.
With his fiery words and firm stance, MLA Leishiyo Keishing has sent a clear message: “Substandard work will no longer be tolerated, and Kamjong’s development cannot wait any longer.”
