March 5, 2025 (DIO-IPR): In an effort to raise awareness on girls’ education and gender equality, the District Administration Kakching, in collaboration with the District Programme Office, ICDS Cell Kakching, organized an Essay Writing Competition under the 10th Edition of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (BBBP) scheme at Wabagai Higher Secondary School.
The competition, themed “Role of Education in Shaping a Woman’s Life,” witnessed the participation of around 80 students up to Class XII. The initiative aimed to highlight the significance of education in empowering women and addressing gender discrimination.
Nandita Ngangbam, Supervisor of ICDS Kakching, addressed the students, emphasizing the BBBP scheme’s objectives in preventing gender bias, promoting girls’ education, and improving the child sex ratio.
Priyadarshini Ningthoujam of Class XI from Kakching Higher Secondary School secured the first position, followed by Bernessa Laikangbam of Class IX from Grace Cottage Academy in second place. Mayengbam Roshita Devi of Class X, also from Grace Cottage Academy, secured the third position, while Naorem Loyalembi Devi of Class IX from Grace Cottage Academy and Moirangthem Angelina of Class IX from Eureka Academy, Thounaojam, were placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
The winners will be felicitated during the International Women’s Day celebration on March 8, 2025. As part of the event, a football exhibition match for adolescent girls from Kakching District will also be organized.
The District Programme Office, ICDS Cell Kakching, has been actively conducting awareness programs across the district under the 10th Edition of the BBBP scheme to promote gender equality and girls’ education.
