Eviction Looms as Kangpokpi DC Inspects and Sets September 3 Deadline for Demolition of Illegal Constructions on NH-2

The Kangpokpi District Administration has stepped up its crackdown on unauthorized structures along National Highway 2 with a massive inspection drive led by Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari.

Officials said the DC, accompanied by a joint team of the ADM, SDO, SDC, NHIDCL staff, SH-ADC personnel, and police, inspected several areas including Kangpokpi town, T. Khullen, Yaikongpao, and Daili to identify illegal shops, house extensions, and tin sheds encroaching on the highway.

The administration has fixed September 3 as the final deadline for owners to voluntarily demolish their structures.

Authorities warned that failure to comply will invite eviction and demolition by the district team, with debris and items cleared at the cost of the violators.

Reports from NHIDCL field officers highlighting rampant encroachments had earlier triggered the drive, following which the district administration issued eviction notices on August 13.

Officials stressed that the move is aimed at ensuring safety, smooth traffic flow, and public convenience, and urged residents to extend cooperation.

The inspection was carried out in the presence of ADM N. Shokngam Baite, SH-ADC James Doujapao, SDO Champhai Lamminlal Simte, along with SDCs, NHIDCL officials, and state police personnel.
