A consensus emerged at a high-level consultative meeting in Imphal today, where heritage experts and scholars called for the reconstruction of the dismantled Manipur Rajbari in Shillong under ASI and UNESCO guidelines, backed by professional conservation expertise and active local collaboration to restore the site’s lost grandeur.
Chaired by Ngangom Uttam, Director of MAHUD and IPR, the meeting at the City Convention Centre in Imphal East reviewed the events surrounding the dismantling of the iconic structure from September 29 to October 8, 2025, and charted a roadmap for its heritage revival.
The Monitoring and Supervision Committee, formed by the Government of Manipur on October 13, presented the current status of preserved materials and sought expert advice.
Distinguished participants, including W. Nabakumar, Nepram Gitkumar, Mutua Bahadur, Y. Rupachandra, Homen Thangjam, A. Bhakta Singh, T. Tombi Singh, S. Tampha Singh, and Prof. N. Joykumar Singh, unanimously stressed the need for authenticity in design, cultural integrity, and professional oversight.
The session concluded with a collective pledge to reclaim the Rajbari’s heritage identity, ensuring that its restoration reflects Manipur’s pride, history, and architectural legacy.
