A decade of Amur Falcon conservation in Tamenglong was celebrated today with a spirited “Amur Falcon Run 2025,” organised under the initiative of the DFO Tamenglong and jointly conducted by the Rainforest Club Tamenglong in collaboration with the 6th Assam Rifles.
According to the organisers, 82 runners, including 22 women, took part in the 10 km race, reflecting the growing public interest in protecting the migratory raptors that have placed Tamenglong on the global conservation map.
In the men’s category, Gainithui Malangmei of Pongringlong secured the champion title, followed by Kh. Wahid of New Checkon as first runner-up, Pourimyibe Pame of Phoklong as second runner-up, and Muhammad Kurbash Khan of Wangjing as third runner-up.
In the women’s category, Kedangwale Panmei of Lungniyam emerged as the winner, while KC Kakhunguiliu of Tamenglong Ward No. 10, Machunkhuanliu Panmei of Duiluan, and Njianthualiu Gonmei of Thiulon were declared first, second, and third runners-up respectively.
Officials highlighted the exceptional success of this year’s satellite tagging of three falcons (Apapang, Ahu, and Alang) whose rapid flight across the Arabian Sea to Africa within seven days has drawn international attention to Manipur’s conservation efforts.
It was also noted that Rainforest Club founder Dr. Chambo Gonmei recently received the “Guardians of Himalayas Award 2025” at the 7th Dehradun Literature Festival.
