‘Farmers are now most vulnerable to Attack’: COCOMI Convenor

The farmers from the valley district of Manipur have now become the most vulnerable group, prone to attack by armed Kuki groups, as most of the farmland is located at the periphery areas, adjacent to Kuki villages, the COCOMI Convenor Khuraijam Athouba said on Friday, condemning highly the firing incident that injured one farmer by suspected Kuki militant at Phubala in Bishnupur District of Manipur yesterday.

The Convenor also said the issue will be raised to SP level, as the farmer wing of the CSO has identified areas that require security after a survey, as “we want all the terror element on the other side to be sanities, not in rhetorical statement.”

Meanwhile, a large number of locals also held a meeting with the District Commissioner and Bishnupur SP at Phubala, and held a thorough discussion regarding the firing incident and other security issues and challenges faced by people living at the district periphery.
