In a controversial development at Thinungei High Channel, Maning in Bishnupur district today, Meetei farmers were reportedly obstructed by central forces while attempting to commence agricultural activities.
The farmers, who have been engaged in discussions with authorities since March, expressed frustration over the delay in obtaining official permission for their farming endeavors. Despite ongoing efforts, they claim to have received no response from the authorities.
As the farming season draws near, the affected farmers decided to proceed with their agricultural activities today, only to encounter resistance from security personnel citing the absence of formal clearance. Interestingly, they highlighted that neighboring Kom villagers are currently carrying out their farming without impediments.
The incident has sparked local outcry and raised questions about ongoing tensions and disparities in law and order amid President’s Rule in Manipur.
