The All Manipur Film Producers Association (AMFPA) has strongly urged the Government of Manipur to set up a dedicated Film Division under the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) to regulate, promote, and preserve Manipuri cinema in line with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
A release stated that formed in 1978, AMFPA has been one of the pioneering bodies of Manipuri cinema and a founding association of the Film Forum Manipur. Since the historic release of Matamgi Manipur in 1972, the first Manipuri feature film, the Association has played a central role in safeguarding the growth of the state’s film industry.
The Association reminded that all producers wishing to make a film must register their production banner and film title with AMFPA before release. It also instructed producers to consult the Association before organizing any Yaipha Thouni (ritual or inaugural ceremony), ensuring adherence to rules and protecting the rights of filmmakers.
AMFPA stated that such practices are essential to maintain discipline in the industry while upholding the cultural and professional standards of Manipuri cinema. It appealed to the state government to take up the establishment of a Film Division at the earliest in the best interest of filmmakers, audiences, and the future of Manipuri films.
