The only ‘Swarna Kamal’ awardee Manipur filmmaker, Haobam Paban Kumar, will attend ‘The Indigenous Cinema: South Asian Perspectives’, a three-day gathering of filmmakers, scholars, and artists exploring Indigenous cinemas across South Asia with a focus on identity, land, memory, and resistance, to be held from December 8–10 at New York University in Abu Dhabi.
The filmmaker from Manipur left on Saturday, and the three-day-long event is being organised by the Rights and Representation Research Forum in collaboration with the Film and New Media Programme, New York University Abu Dhabi, and the Indigenous Film and Media Alliance, South Asia.
The event will feature short, documentary, and fiction films alongside conversations on the politics of representation and the shifting terrain of Indigenous media.
The Manipur filmmaker Haobam Paban Kumar, the recipient of the Swarna Kamal award from Manipur, will speak on his journey of cinema.
