Final HLTF Meeting Charts Roadmap for Strengthening Sports Ecosystem in the North-East

The third and final meeting of the High-Level Task Force on Promotion of Sports in the North Eastern Region was co-chaired today by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia via video conferencing.

The session brought together the Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs, sports ministers from Meghalaya and Mizoram, the Chief Secretary of Manipur, and representatives from DoNER and other North Eastern states.

The meeting reviewed the status of ongoing programmes aimed at strengthening sports development in the region. Discussions covered a comprehensive set of priorities, including scientific coaching methods, competitive structures, last-mile sports infrastructure, and the establishment of high-performance centres and academies.

Scindia underscored the importance of the “One Sport Discipline – One State” model—a targeted strategy meant to streamline investments and help states focus on disciplines where they hold natural or developed strengths. States were encouraged to refine their priority areas and prepare proposals reflecting existing ecosystems, long-term potential, and resource needs.

The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to accelerate progress through evidence-based planning, stronger coordination, and close cooperation between the Centre and state governments.
