DEC 7, 2025 (Agency): A fire mishap in a popular nightclub in Goa’s Arpora area claimed the lives of at least 25 people, including 4 tourists and 14 staff members, last night at Birch by Romeo Lane in the bustling Baga area.
The blaze broke out at about midnight on Sunday after a gas cylinder exploded at the nightclub, according to reports citing local police. Several tourists and kitchen workers were killed in the fire, according to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and announced that an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs from the PMNRF will be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured will be given Rs. 50,000.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “The fire mishap in Arpora, Goa, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest. Spoke to Goa CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Ji about the situation. The State Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected.”
The identities of 7 victims are yet to be confirmed, and six injured are currently undergoing treatment, according to reports reaching here, and the area where the mishap happened draws a large crowd due to its proximity to one of Goa’s most frequented beaches.
