The first combined Chavan Kumhrin of the Western Valley Area in Chandel district was celebrated on Thursday at Thungcheng Village with great enthusiasm and vibrant cultural performances.
Held under the theme “Bring the best of the first fruits to the house of the Lord your God,” the celebration was organised by the Western Valley Area Sinnu Ruwl (WVASR). Members of the Anal Naga community, dressed in traditional attire and ornaments, gathered to offer their first and best harvest of the year as a thanksgiving to the Almighty.
Welcoming the congregation, Dr. Ht. Thumjahring, President of WVASR, said this was the first combined Chavan Kumhrin organised for the Western Valley Area, initiated by the womenfolk to bring unity and celebrate the harvest festival in a grand manner.
As Chief Guest, Sng. Mohelas, Port Administrator, Moreh (Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India), emphasized the importance of preserving cultural identity, stating, “If we lose our culture, we’ll lose our identity too.” He encouraged the Anal community to uphold their traditions and continue celebrating such festivals with pride, while also highlighting the role of education and employment in strengthening the community’s identity.
Rev. Kl. Tangthu, Executive Secretary of ANBA, offered prayers and blessings upon the offerings brought by the women leaders, describing Chavan Kumhrin as a festival of thanksgiving to God for His abundant blessings.
The event featured a range of performances including choreography by Children Caring Home, Unopat, special songs by Juwlbangching Sinnu Ruwl, folk songs by Beru Khudam Sinnu Ruwl and Thungcheng Sinnu Ruwl, and cultural dances by the youth of the Western Valley Area.
The celebration was attended by Hl. Lovingson as Functional President, Ps Molun and Kt. Hari as Special Guests, along with social workers, student leaders, women leaders, and other invitees who added to the festive spirit of the occasion.
