First Convocation Ceremony of Manipur University of Culture Confers Degrees to Over 400 Students

March 10, 2026 (IMP): The first convocation ceremony of Manipur University of Culture (MUC) was held at City Convention in Imphal, presided over by Manipur Governor and Chancellor of MUC Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday, and degrees were conferred to more than 400 students in the first-ever convocation organised since the establishment of the University in 2015.

The Governor of Manipur, A.K. Bhalla, congratulated the graduating students on their achievements and emphasised that they carry both the honour and responsibility of preserving and promoting Manipur’s rich cultural heritage, encouraging them to contribute to the continued growth and recognition of the state’s artistic and cultural traditions.

The Manipur University of Culture was set up as a Model University in the field of Art and Culture in the history of the Indian academy, established in 2015 after the Government of Manipur introduced a Bill called “The Manipur University of Culture Bill, 2015” in the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The State Government took the bold decision to establish this culture university with the hope of promoting the Art & Culture and rich cultural heritage of India.

The University was established under Act No. 7 of 2015 and is empowered to award degrees as specified by the UGC under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956, and the Act was published in the Manipur Gazette on May 5, 2015. Subsequently, the Government appointed August 25, 2015, as the date of commencement of the Act.
