Dhanamanjuri University (DMU), Imphal, marked a significant chapter in its institutional development by holding its first convocation ceremony on Thursday, eight years after attaining university status in 2018.
Governor of Manipur Ajay Kumar Bhalla inaugurated the convocation and conferred undergraduate and postgraduate degrees on students from multiple academic streams, covering graduating batches from 2020 to 2024.
In his address, the Governor said the first convocation symbolised the University’s steady progress and maturity as an institution of higher learning. He expressed satisfaction over the large physical presence of graduating students and noted that convocation ceremonies reflect years of sustained effort, family support, and personal commitment.
Stressing that graduates now carry the University’s reputation beyond campus, he encouraged them to demonstrate responsibility, ethical judgement, and professionalism in their future pursuits. He added that universities must go beyond academic instruction by nurturing adaptability, lifelong learning, and values essential in a rapidly evolving global environment.
The Governor also acknowledged DMU’s recent advancements in infrastructure, academic delivery, governance, and student outcomes, describing them as indicators of positive institutional direction. Reaffirming the Manipur government’s commitment to strengthening the University, he called upon graduates to contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.
The event was attended by Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Secretary of the Ministry of Education Vineet Joshi, Vice-Chancellor W. Chandbabu, along with the Registrar, Deans, faculty members, senior officials, students, parents, and other distinguished guests.
